We’re excited to attend this year’s Web Summit in Lisbon, not only for being listed as one of the key fintech startups for investors to meet, but also for coming across inspiring women’s profiles and talents that convey entrepreneurship values and changes in the tech space. We’re proud to have 2 women on our executive team and look forward to seeing more women take on senior roles in tech companies in the coming years. Here is our selection of some the most impressive women attending Web Summit 2016:
Christene Barberich is the editor-in-chief and co-founder of the award-winning global women's media company, Refinery29.com, which reaches more than 175 million users worldwide monthly. Since launching Refinery29 in 2005, the company has received three Webby awards, four consecutive Inc. 500 awards for Fastest Growing Companies in the U.S., a top fashion honor from Forbes, and two consecutive ASME nominations for Best Website. Christene was named an Ad Age Media Maven in 2014, and one of Folio Magazine's 2016 Top Women In Media.
Eileen Burbidge is a Partner at Passion Capital following operational roles at Yahoo, Skype, Apple, etc. Eileen is also Chair of TechCity UK, the British government-backed organisation supporting digital across the UK; HM Treasury’s Special Envoy for FinTech; Tech Ambassador for the Mayor of London's office; and served on former Prime Minister David Cameron’s Business Advisory Group. Eileen was made an MBE for services to Business and holds a BSc Engineering degree in Computer Science from UIUC.
Sree has been awarded, India's Undergraduate researcher with the most number of International Research publications”. She’s a researcher by heart, advocating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics.) She published over 23 technical research publications in International journals and conferences.
Sarah has been the Chief Financial Officer and Operations leads of Square, Inc. since June 13, 2012. Ms. Friar served as the Senior Vice President of Finance & Strategy at Salesforce.com.
Sofia is the co-founder and COO of the Real Estate Crowdfunding platform Bricksave. She has over 15 years experience with internet start-ups, online marketing research and the real estate market and was co-Founder of Dinero Mail, the largest online payment system in Latam which she sold to the international VC Naspers.
Julia Hartz has evolved Eventbrite into to the world’s largest self-service platform for live experiences. Founded in 2006, Eventbrite has generated billions in gross ticket sales, processing over 2 million tickets per week in 180 countries.
Holly Liu is co-founder and Chief of Staff of Kabam, the leader in the western world for free-to-play core games. Holly also oversees Kabam’s corporate culture as head of People Operations (“People Ops”), which is responsible for driving Kabam’s vision, mission, and values for its more than 800 employees in offices around the world. Holly has helped build a world-class human resources team that is responsible for recruiting and retaining top talent and has grown Kabam’s personnel base by 500% in three years.
Anne McElvoy is a former foreign correspondent and columnist. She began her career on the Times, covering east Germany, German unification, the Balkans and Russia before becoming Deputy Editor of the Spectator and Political Columnist of the Daily Telegraph. Most recently she was Executive Editor of the London Evening Standard and the newspaper’s political columnist. She joined The Economist in January 2011. Ms McElvoy also presents the BBC arts and ideas programme “Night Waves” and is a regular panellist on the BBC Radio 4 “Moral Maze” and BBC2 “Review Show.”
Reshma is Managing Partner, Founding Partner, Co-Chief Executive Officer, and Partner at Seedcamp. She co-manages Seedcamp and helped in its founding in 2007. She focuses on investments in B2B, fashion, gaming, travel, and financial services sectors.
Bedy Yang is the Venture Partner at 500 Startups. Bedy Yang founded Brazil Innovators, an organization that nurtures entrepreneurship and innovation through the connection to Silicon Valley. Previous to this venture, she had a social business on income generation and fair trade working with Brazil and China.
